The Jacare

January 30, 2011

In Brazil they call Ronaldo de Souza “Jacare”. A naturally gifted athlete, he only started to train bjj because his brother was injured and unable to attend the class he had already paid for. Today, Jacare is among the most feared bjj practioners in mma. Jacare’s nickname is derived from his freakish grip strength. Like an alligator, Jacare’s grip is death.

Shay Marie. They said “she makes Selma Hayek look like a teenage boy”. They were right.

It’s the art of being flexible

January 25, 2011

“It’s the art of being flexible. In life you have to be flexible sometimes, and the same thing in jiu jitsu. You have to be flexible, but sometimes you get a position and you have to squeeze it hard…Sometimes you are technical, but then the guy start to grow on you, and you have to man up a little and maybe be a little rough…and the same thing in life. If you’re too soft, sometimes people are gonna mount on you and think you’re weak…Not passing these limits and jiu jitsu teaches you a lot about how to be with these limits.”

Lady who lives a couple doors down brought me food. Spiced potatoes, chicken, and some kind of greek looking salad. “Kosher” she said. Delishuss i say.

Snowboarding went well today. I fell less than the last time I went and I got the sense that snowboarding is like golf in that you can enjoy doing it alone once you get to a certain level of competency. I’ve always preferred mountains to the ocean and I like that a ski resort, like a golf course presents a manicured version of nature that makes it possible to be outdoors and feel like you have sole possession of some awesome secluded piece of land. My favorite time to golf and visit the snow is early in the morning or the end of the day when the crowd is thin and a low sun makes everything seem fresh.

Music like food is better when you don’t have to work too hard for it.

Intense Love

I saw an STI Forester at LA Auto Show in 2008 and i’ve been stalking them ever since. It’s actually pretty tough to find a low miles manual XT anywhere, even in LA/OC. Apparently they’re not that cool. This is on Craigslist right now for $18k. STI block, 255walboro, 800cc injectors, 20g, church tuned, etc etc…350rwhp and 300+torque.

I wanna have your babies

Sparco rims actually look decent
